FIRE BRIGADE RECOGNISED,
The Superintendent of the Whangarei Fire Brigade has received the following letter from Mr F. Cutforth in connection with the : fire at the latter 's premises in RathbOnc Street on Saturday last:—"Dear Sir—l wish to express to you and through you to the boys of the Fire Brigade my sincere thanks for the manner in which they fought the lire at my workshop to my timber, the loss of which would have been a very serious one to me had it gone up in smoke As it is I am a heavy loser, but might have been very much worse. I feel that it is when we are hit ourselves that we realise the use of the firemen and what they are sacrificing for others "I am enclosing a cheque for £5 for which you amongst yourselves can arrange for some competition as you may think wise. Wishing vou every success, etc.—l am, yours sincerely, F. Cutforth."
