THE DEPARTMENT'S STOCK
ANTI-PLAGUE PRECAUTIONS
•(Special to "Northern Advocate.") WELINGTON, This Day. "Has the Minister -of Health any -viccine serum for use in the event of •plague coming to New Zealand?" ask>ed Dr. A. K. Newman (Wellington East) in the House.
The Minister of Health, the Hon. C. JT. Parr, teplied that he was hoping that if the local bodies and the individual householders of the Dominion toolc proper precautions plague would not ■come to New Zealand. He was informed that the Health Department had in hand enough vaccine for some 400 ca&es. This quantity had recently been obtained from Britain. The Department had communicated with the Australian authorities asking them to forward to New Zealand cultures of the virulent bacillus isolated from the plague cases in. Queensland. These cultures had been promised ,and when they arrived the Department would be in a position to manufacture adequate stocks of serum. Should the plague come to New Zealand there would bo ample stocks of the prophylactic.
