KOSHER WINE.
ORTHODOX JEWISH DRIKK. Viscount Erleigh, Lord Reading's son supported an applicati made to the Westminster justices by the proprietor of a kosher restaurant for a license to sell wine (reports the "Newcastle Chronicle"). The Viscount said that kosher wino was made from grapes grown in Palestine, and its manufacture whs carried out entirely by people of the Jewish faith. It did not differ in strength from ordinary wines. The Rev. Gerald Freidlander (minister of the Western District Synagogue, London) said kosher wine must be prepared throughout by Jots, buv he did not agree that the grapes must come solely from Palestine. It was absolutely obligatory for on ortho dox Jew to take wine on the Sabbath. The command was "Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it- holy," and the orthodox Jew would remember it over the wine. Jews were never total teetotalers. He had never heard of a Jew being drunk nor of a temperance society in connection with the Jewish Church. "We believe the Almighty has given us the good things to enjoy and not to abuse," he said. The application was granted on condition that onlv kosher wine should be sold.
