The price of butter was mentioned again in the House of Represent?.tiives yesterday. Memlbers state.'.! that the people of Wellington and other centres were being charged 2s lid per lib for new butter. Could not the Government keep down the pricj pending the report of the Butter Committee. The Hon. E. P. Lee: It 'is not the function of the Board of Trade to ask people to sell goods at 'a loss. I have conferred with the Prime Minister on that point. What w e do is to see that goods are sold at a fair profit. Mr Massey remarked that it was not possible for the Government to interfere during the next few days, until the Butter Committee 'made its report. The Government conld decide what was to be done about the price of 'butter when the report had been received.
