HARBOUR BOARD'S SUCCESS
SOME STATEMENTS RESENTED
RETURNING OFFICER'S REPORT
At the monthly meeting of the Whangiirei Harbour Board yesterday the result of the poll for harbour improvements was officially conveyed to the Board by Mr McKinnon, the returning officer, as follows: —
"I have the honour to report that the board's proposal to raise £120, 000 for harbour improvements and purchase of a suction dredge has been approved by the ratepayers a.fc a poll taken on the 2nd inst. The number of votes cast'in favour were 733, and against the proposal 278, with only G informal votes. I have to thank the various deputy returning officers and poll clerks for the efficient manner in which they carried out their duties and also for theprompt manner in which the returns wer c delivered to the various telephone offices • Th e P°sfe and Telegraph officers are also thanked for the expeditious manner in which the returns wore dispatched and delivered at th c secretary's office, the whole of tho returns being received within thre e hours of the tim e of closing the polling booths, which constitutes a record considering that the returns had to pass through 37 stations."
