SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE YEARS AGO. (Special to "Advocate.") AUCKLAND, This Day. While it is true that the "big gun" in the campaign for harbour improvement is undoubtedly the gain to be derived from direct overseas shipping, it must be remembered that at the present time, and for a long time to come, the principal revenue of tho port of Whangarei must come from its coastal traffic. 5t is known that the opinion of overseas shipping companies is strongly in favour of development and there is more or less an implied pledge that Whangarei shall be the port of call North of Auckland, but it is also interesting and instructive at this juncture to hear the views of the coas- | tal men, those who have to make and
- work the port at all times and in all 3 weathers. i
