WHANGAREI HIGH SCHOOL.
BOARD OF GOVERNORS' MEETING
In the absence of Mr W. A. Carruth, Mr H. W. Crawford presided at the monthly meeting of the Whangarei High School Board of Governors, held in the County Council Chambers yesterday afternoon, the following other members being present —Messrs R. C. M. Harington, R. Thompson, W. Jones, F. Higginson, the Rev. G. C. ] Cruickshank and Mr J. McKinnon, sccrctnry. , ALIENATION OF ENDOWMENT LAND. The Hon. D. H. Guthrie wrote in reference to the High School site that the proposals made therein relating to acquisition of additional land for purposes of building a new school and transfer of some of the endowment lands at Kioreroa to the Crown were being considered, and if the reports were favourable, further reports would probably be required by the Department concerning tho future possibilities of the Kioreroa endowment lands for settlement purposes before finally sanctioning the requests made. As nothing further could be done in the meantime, there was no more discussion upon the subject. NOXIOUS WEEDS REMOVAL. Notice was served upon the Board to have noxious weeds removed from Russell road at the High School, and the secretary was instructed to have the necessary work carried out. EXEMPT FROM RATES. In reference to a claim made for balance of rates owing by a lessee o£ part of tho High School endowment land at Kioreroa, it was decided to notify the county solicitor, that the Board disclaimed any liability as it was not legally responsible for any rates on endowment lands. There were no rates payable on such lands until they were leased, and then only the lessee wtfs responsible. INTERVENING ROADWAY. It was decided to get a full report from Mr Wilson, the Board's solicitor, in connection with the roadway between the High School and the railway, with a view to furtherance of Mr .Tones' contention that it should be formed. FINANCE. Accounts amounting to £380 8s 9d were passed for payment, of which £100 13s 9d was comprised in maintenance of the boarding hostel, groceries for the month amounting to £52 4s 10s, meat £22 19s 7d, bread £9 2s, milk £8 14s 6d, and heating and lighting £7 12s lOd.
