GOVERNMENT ACTION CONDEMNED.

LORD FRENCH'S CRITICISM

CIVIL WAE TENDENCY,

(Received S a.m.)

LONDON, Aug. 25

At the Dublin Conference Lord French moved that as the policy of the Government was tending to civil war it was of paramount importance for immediate steps to be taken to secure peace. He added that re-conquest of Ireland would mean the distraction of whatever property was left, and declared that those calling for military intervention were calling for assassination of the nation. The resolution was adopted. Sir Horace Plunkett declared that the Conference was ready to accord nine-tenths of the Sinn Feiners' demands. During discussion on the Dominion Home Rule system for Ireland Mr. Stanley Harrington urged that three mediatory statesmen should be chosen from Australia, New Zealand and Canada. —A. and N.Z.
