BOXING.

CONFERENCE IN WELLINGTON

A conference of representatives of boxing associations throughout New Zealand was held here to-day. Mr C. T. Asehman, Christchurch presided. In his opening address the chairman urged associations to keep down betting. Boxing was a branch of amateur athletics, but unfortunately under present conditions much of this sport in New Zealand was -professional, and only a little of it amateur. Associations should sek to reverse this.

It was decided that permission might at any time be given by the Boxing Council for competition between a profesisonal and an amateur boxer but i n advertising fehe bout it must 'be distinctly stated that it was an exhibition contest only.

The rule stipulating that a competitor, to ibe eligible for a championship meeting, must !be resident in New Zealand for six months prior to the contest was altered, making it non-applicable in case of returned soldiers.
