THE PRINCE'S TOUR.
DILEMMA IN CHRISTCHURCH,
NO SUITABLE BUILDING.
CiIIMSTCHURCIT, .Tan. 20.
As the Colosseum may not now be used for public functions because of its unsafe condition, Christchurch, which has not a Town Hall, has to face the problem of obtaining a building in which the public gatherings connected with the Prince of Wales' visit to the city mny be held. That visit is expected to occur early in May. Dr. Tliacker, the Mayor, intends to call a meeting of citizens in order that a Royal Reception Committee may be appointed. He will ask that- committee to consider the question of obtaining a building in which the prince may be received. Dr. Thacker's opinion is that the city should construct on a suitable site a temporary Town Hall, containing reception rooms, nnterorws, kitchen, etc., that could also be used for other functions. The scheme could be financed by a number of citizens guaranteeing up to £1000 each, mmly a <ruarantee, not a cash contribution. The building would be used for the large functions until :i permanent Town Hall was erected. Dr. Tliacker ways he intends to ask the eommitteo to tnke up the matter of the building of a permanent Town Hall as a citizens' war memorial, the Prince, of Wales to lie aske 1 to lay the foundation stone.— Press Assn.
