THE WAIAU RAILWAY.
OPENING CEREMONY
CHRISTCHURCH Dec. 16.
The Waiau railway, which was commenced just before the outbreak of war, was taken over by tho Railway Department yesterday, and a passenger service instituted. For over a year the line has been carrying goods traffic.
A banquet was tendered to a largo number of visitors from Christchurch and as far north as Kaikoura.
A presentation of. a gold watch was made to Mr K. Pettigrew, chairman of the Waiau Railway League.—Press
