HIGH SCHOOL DANCE.
On Tuesday evening last Mr Quinn, on behalf of the boarders of the High School, gave a dance for the senior girls and boys of the school, many of whom are leaving the school at the end of the year. Among the guests were Mr and Mrs Lupton, Mr Carruth, Mr Morrison, the governors of the board and their- wives, and the members of the staff.
The hall was exquisitely decorated in gold and black. Draperies designed on classic lines were carried out in gold, and festoons of black delicately relieved the brilliant effect. A splendid floor and excellent music made the evening a memorable one. At 10 o'clock the guests repaired to the dining hall where a delightful supper was prepared. The toasts wore limited to three, "The School," being proposed by Arthur Lamb, senior prefect of the school.
In replying, Mr Lupton spoke at length on the noble aspirations of tho High School —of the honour which was the keynote to a successful life and of the splendid example which had been provided to the present students by those boys who had helped to save their country. Mr Lupton's speech was greeted with loud applause.
"The Boys" was suitably proposed by Air Quinn, who congratulated them on the splendid esprit de corps shown throughout the year. He was sure that the boys who were leaving the school this year would grow to men who would be able to put their hand to the plough and see the furrow out.
Frank Cotton, senior house prefect, responded, and thanked Mr Quinn for a very happy and beneficial year at the boarding school.
The last toast was that of Mrs McGeatian and Mr Quinn, proposed by Mr Carruth. The speaker eulogised the fine efforts of the matron and thanked her for her untiring attention to the needs of tho boys. He informed the guests that Mr Quinn was departing in January next for America and Europe, and he wished Mr Quinn much success and pleasure. He hoped they would all be able to welcome their housemaster home again after twelve months.
Mr Quinn replied on behalf of Mrs McGeahan and himself.
Dancing was continued after supper till about 12.30. The evening was the piece do resistance of the social functions held this year at the school, and it reflects much credit on those responsible for the arrangements. Especial thanks and praise are due to Mr Morrison, Avho was mainly responsible for the
decorations,
