THE WAIPA DISPUTE.
MEN BACK AT WORK
PENDING ADJUSTMENT.
The men employed in the Waipa Coal Company's mine at Glen Massey have decided to resume work and refer the matters in dispute between the employees and the management to the Disputes Committee in accordance with the provision made in the working. When inquiries were made as to the causes of the trouble the manager Mr Thompson, stated that the men had not been working full time, as the "go-slow" policy was still in operation. He felt justified, therein refusing to make good the wages of the men employed in what are termed deficient bords—placets where the seam is small and the coal is hard.
A deputation of miners, including Coalminers' Federation • officials, waited on Mr Thompson this afternoon. The latter refused to recede from the attitude he had taken up.
A subsequent meeting of the miners was held, and after a lengthy discussion it was decided to refer the matter to the Disputes Committee and in the meantime the m«n will resume work.
