WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN TEMPERANCE UNION.
BALE OF WORK AND CONCERT,
To augment the funds of the Uaioa and to provide scope for the giving of assistance, a sale of work was hel:l in the Presbyterian Hall on Tuesday afternoon. The sale was not planned on a very large scale and only lasted for three hours. It afforded an opportunity for friends of the movement to contribute in home produce, and eatables of various kinds found ready sale. The promoters of the gathering, while glad of the financial assistance achieved thereby, feel that a larger return would have bees possible if a longer time had been allowed for preparation.
The Young Women's Movement was in evidence in the evening at a social in the Town Hall supper-room, where a series of musical items were rendered. A very pleasant evening was spent aud the funds of the Union were assisted \v the proceeds Mr J. B. Ramsay took the chair, and Mrs Charles D. McLean accompanied on the piano the musical items rendered. Recitations were givea by Miss Ethel James, a monologue by Mr Owen, songs by Mrs D. W. Miller, Miss K. Harrison, Miss Miller, Miss Warren, Miss Lovatt and Miss Cutforth, and several children gave an action song. Recitations were also given by Miss Martin , and Rev. W. E. Lambert. A pleasing item was a chorus by several young women, '' The Bell.? of St. Mary." All events were appreciated.
There was an elem&it of genial fellowship, and all concerned enjoyed the most agreeablo arrangement for helping the work of the Women's Temperance Union.
