VALEDICTORY.
PKEISBYTEUIAiSf HALL FUNCTION
A well attended social was held in the Presbyterian hall last evening, a.s a farewell to Mr and Mrs Ghaa. MeKinnon, Mr and Mrs Fredk. Venters, and Mr and Mrs Kobt. Thomson and their respective families, who are leaving Whangarei. A short musical and elocutionary programme was given, the contributors being Misses Keyburn and Spencer, Mesdames 11. Allan and S. Watt, and Messrs A. Dobson and A. M.cLeod. Refreshments provided by the ladies were handed round. Various.* games and a clever Highland dance contributed by Miss Eita Forsyth interested the young people. During the evening the Key. Geo. Lochore expressed the appreciation of the congregation of ihe genuine worth of their depaitiug guests, regret at the prospect of their going away, and best wishes for their future prosperity. Their removal would be a great loss to the church, for they had not only been most regular in their attendance at the services but al-
ways willing to assist in every gooU work. Mr A. McLeod, on behalf of the Sunday School teachers, presented Mrs Venters with an enamelled and sil-ver-mounted smelling salt bottle and Mr James Horn, on behalf of the congregation (in a humorous and -kindly speech), presented Mrs McKinnou with a handsome solid silver tray. Very kindly valedictory speeches were .ilso made by Messrs H. Weaver and J. D. AlcKensrie, who had known Mr and Mrs McKinnon from childhood. Mr Venters and Mr McKinnon feelingly responded on behalf of the recipients. The singing of Auld Lang Syne brought a very cordial social to a conclusion.
