The rabbitskin sales in Dunedin last week wore marked by keen activity (says the "Star.") All the offerings were purchased at rates fully equal to and in some cases exceeding those of a fortnight ago. One small line, specially choice, realised 200 d per lb., and six bales of selected does brought 196 d. As these winter skins run five or six to the lb, one can see that there is money in rabbits. They are a better commercial proposition at 3s each, surely, than lambs at 20s. The total realised at these sales cannot be far short of £100,000. These high prices, we are told, are caused entirely by the American demand, and it looks as if they will continue, because a wealthy country that has put so much money into skins cannot afford to lot the values drop.
