BOMBAY SOCIAL SERVICE.

The Social Service League, Bombay, has decided to start a Working Men's Institute for the benefit of the peopfe of the labouring classes there; the objects of the movement are:—To make provision for the education of the halftimers and the adult workmen by means of clay and night classes respectively; to make provision for their recreation by starting a social club with a gymnasium and refreshment rooms, room for indoor games and a theatre for cinema shows and amateur dramas; to make provision to assist workers in organising cooperative credit societies, co-operative stores, friendly societies, for insurance purposes and for medical aid, etc.; to make provision for a hall for lectures on temperance and other subjects; to organise week-end holidays and fresh air excursions; to endeavour to raise the standard of life of the working classes.
