STORAGE OF VALUABLES.

THE VATICAN ADVANTAGED

LARGE RENT RETURNS.

(Received 8.50 a.m.)

ROME, Sept. 17,

During and since the war many important personages in various belligerent countries have deposited gold, jewels, and securities with the Vatican, in order to guard against post-war seizure. German and Austrian securities were especially numerous. Since the armistice the Vatican has changed ad valorem rent. It is understood that the rent has supported the Vatican's expenses arising from the war. —A. and N.Z.
