WHAKAPARA
NEW GOLF LINKS OPENED
Brilliant weather favoured .the opening function of the Whakapara Golf Club on Saturday, the 23rd inst., with the result that a large gathering ©1 visitors assembled on the links. Some forty players from the Whangarei. Club were present, and a pleasant afternoon was devoted to mixed foursomes. v Later in the afternoon visitors and friends gathered in a pretty nook by _,clump of native bush, where after-4ftjn-tea was served by local ladies, twider picnic conditions. In a brief speech Mr Combes, on behalf of the local club welcomed the visitors to 4 the links," and the Whangarei club captain (Mr Finch) replied, expressing the hope of future • inter-club play. The formal opening of the links was completed by the driving of the first bail by the president (Miss E. McDonald,- and a neat little drive, straight and true, resulted. Play was again resumed until tim e for the visiting players to make the return journey, after a very enjoyable day.
