Mr F. Mander, M.P., Is in town at present. The agent of the Jubilee Institute for the .Blind (Mr }(. ii Miller) returned to Auckland today by the Manaia. He expresses his thanks to the people of Whangarei for subscriptions and donations amounting to £30. Brigadier-General Meldrum, a member of the well-known Kamo family ranking amongst the eailiest settlers of the district, recently returned to Aew Zealand after war-service, and on Tuesday last paid a visit to the locality with which his family had been so long associated, renew?ng many old acquaintanceships. The Brigadier-Ueneral returved to Auckland to-day. News is to hand of T he death of Judge Jackson Palmei, of the Native Land Court, at the age of 52. His demise occurred in the oarly hours of yesterday morning, in Wellington He was M.P. for Waitemata in 1890, and was defeated by Mi B. Monk, in the same constituency, at the following election. In 1890 he was one of
seven candidates for the representation of Ohinemuri and gained the seat. Not long ago Mr Palmer was attacked .by lethargic encephilitis, and. it was then feared that he would succumb, as he remained unconscious for.a long period.
