DETRIMENTAL TO AMERICA.

SENATOR LODGE'S VIEWS.

WASHINGTON, August 12

Senator Lodge says that it is impossible to accept the League of Nations, as the covenant would kill Monroeism and impair America's sovereign power and plunge the United States in every controversy on the face of the globe. If the United States falls the hopes of mankind would fail with it.

Sir Herbert Ames, of Montreal, hon. secretary pf the Canadian Patriotic Fund, has been appointed financial director of the permanent secretariat of the League of Nations, with headquarters at Geneva.—A. and N.Z.
