CONSUMERS' LEAGUES.
EFFECTIVE FRENCH PLAN
PARIS, August 11. The war against profiteering in France continues. Leagues of consumers are actively controlling prices. In each district representatives of the leagues visit the market shops and compare prices with those in the central markets. They warn the shopkeepers, if they are over-charg-ing, that unless they reduce prices they will be reported to the police. The prices of food, in consequence, sometimes fall 40 per cent. Demobilised soldiers are also starting a cooperative buying association for food, clothing, and household requirements.—A, and N.Z.
