CONCRETE FURNITURE.
CHEAPER THAN WOOD.
Furniture constructed of reinforced concrete is the latest aid towards furnishing the million new houses xirgently required'in England. The enterprise has been undertaken by an explosives firm, and the managing director has stated that they can make any furniture as fast as it d/s wanted —"book-cases, sideboards, settees, bedsteads, tables and chairs. It will cost 60 per cent, less than tihe present price of wood.
"Heavy? Well, of course, it will be heavier than wood —probably twice as heavy. But the material will be moulded only an inch and a quarter thick, and if you look at your wooden dining-room table you will see that it is not at all out of the way."
Ab to the objection that concrete is cold in appearance, and to the touch, he remarked 'We are going to pro. duce concrete furniture with as fine a polish as mahogany, and in any colour under the sun. It will also be upholstered just as wooden furniture is upholstered;."
