WORLD FOOD SHORTAGE.
A WEIGHTY PRONOUNCEMENT.
WORKERS' RESPONSIBILITY
(Received 8 a.m.)
PARIS, August 7 (delayed).
Mr Hoover states: "The whole world is faced with the gravest danger of food shortage. The.workers must save humanity. Eight hours a the maximum that manual workers can do efficiently, but they must really work full time. It is impossible for America to save Europe from a coal famine. America can produce 600 million tons of coal annually, but cannot transport more than one million tons of all merchandise monthly, whereas twenty million tons of fuel alone are required monthly to save Europe.—A. and N.Z.
