SUSPICION AND MISTRUST.
A HAPSBURG GOVERNOR
SCATHING DENUNCIATION
(Received 8.55 a.m.)
LONDON, Aug. 9
The sudden re-appearance of a representative of the discredited Hapsburgs as virtual governor of Hungary is regarded with strong suspicion and misgiving in England and France. The "Times" suggests that the Entente Mission to Budapesth had a share in the reactionary intrigue Which has been developing for several months. The Allies are gravely stultifying themselves by delegating authority to the Archduke, while claiming to act in accordance with democratic principles. The "Westminster Gazette" says that th Allies ought to insist on the Archduke immediately convening the Constituent Assembly to see whether the people want Mm. OFrench newspapers make a similar demand. They strongly suspect the Archduke's aims. The "Figaro" says that the Archduke Josef and his generals afe Magyars, the sworn enemies of Service.
