IMMOVABLE RESOLVE.

NOT EVEN DISCUSSION

WELLINGTON, Later, The Mining , Conference resumed to-day. Mr Alison said that the owners had considered, with the utmost care, the demands of the Miners' Federation, and also the serious, even solemn, warning given by the Minister of Mines yesterday, and were convinced that it was impossible to grant the demands under the present conditions of the Dominion. The owners' estimate of the cost to the consumer was unshaken. "We must," he said, "adhere to our decision that we cannot even discuss the principal demands as enumerated at this crisis of our national life. The suggestion of the Minister of Mines that there should be a board of control for the State mines should receive careful consideration, and the owners are willing to adjourn the conference to give time to all parties to come to a conclusion as to its advisability." Th e conference is proceeding.— Press Assn.
