One of the larrikin element entered the Premier's room and hurled an inkwell al Mr Lawson, inflicting a severe wound in the head. Several soldiers then carried the Premier to safety. At this point a strong body of police arrived and were met with a volley of stones. They charged and dispersed the rioters. Later a crowd of s,ix thousand marched to the Russell Street police station and demanded the release of the arrested rioters. The mounted police, after being bombarded with brickbats, chai-ged, and after freely using their batons dispersed the mob. Fourteen rioters and one policeman were injured. One arrest was made.
