MUST BE PREPARED.
Lt.-Col. Steadman pointed out. that what should be uppermost in
their minds that day was the problems of the future and how best they could overcome them. They i were told that this was the last war.
but that was by the "peace at any price" They were told that military training would not now be required, but human nature wai much the same all the world over and
it behoved them to see that their
young men were physically fit and trained in orderliness. They should not lay aside what it had cost them so much to' attain. The next trial of strength might be nearer New Zealand, and they must keep their men properly trained and the resources of the country ready for any emergency. Touching on the industrial side, he declared that it was not possible for them to rub along as before. Labour must
now get its just reward, and that it
had not been just in the past was true in many cases. Peace would not come to them in such case. Increasing wages would not do; they must reduce the cost of living. If they desired peace they must comply with these demands, keep their men in training, and be unitedly determined to keep New Zealand free and fit to live in.
