The friends of Professor Hutton will be pleased to learn that he is getting on well in Rotorua. He reports business brisk.

Mr J. Mackley, inspecting engineer for the Railway (Department, is" at present in Whangarei. He expects to remain here several weeks.

The demise of an old Aratapu resident, Mrs Jane Brown, widow of the late Mr James Brown, took place yesterday at the residence of her daughter in Auckland (says Thursday's "North < Auckland Times.") The deceased lady was widely-known throughout the Northern Wairoa district, where her innumerable kindnesses had endeared her to the whole community. She is survived by. five daughters, / Mrs Bowers, Mrs McDougall, Mrs Lionel Kitching, Mrs Crook, and Miss Francis Brown, and one son, Mr John Brown, of Auckland.

The funeral of the late Mrs Maria Huntley Ashforth left the Church of England this morning' after a short service there, for the Rust Lane Cemetery, where the remains /were placed beside those of her late husband, who was interred there 27 years ago. The Rev. W. Edward Lush officiated at both services. Mr B. R. Miller carried out the mortuary arrangements. The deceased had passed peacefully away at "Braeside" private hospital, after a long and painful illness. Mrs Ashforth was 69 years of age at the time of her death and lived in Wanganui before coming to Whangarei about 30 years ago. She had many relatives in the North, the late Lady Douglas, of Pukepoto,'being a sister.
