A wireless German official message 'says: "Lively artillerying prevails on the coast from the Yser to Lys, on the La Basee Canal, at Loos and Lens, and on both banks of the Scarp,e. We repulsed English advances between Hollebeke and Warneton. We drove back an English attack on the Arras-Corn-brai road, except at a narrow point westward of Bois d'Aivert. The French attacked on a five kilometre front between Avocourt Wood and westward of Morthomme. After bitter fighting they penetrated the southeastern corner of Malancourt Wood, astride the Malancourt-Esnes road."
