AN AUCKLAND SENSATION.
DAYLIGHT ROBBERY.
A house in Symonds street, Auckland, was entered on Saturday morning about 10.30, by a strongly built man of about 50 years of age, and money and valuables impudently stolen. A lady, Mrs Clarke, who is nearly SO years of age, was alone in the house. She noticed the front door open and discovered the man in her bedroom. He smothered her head in a cloak, and removed her to a cellar, apparently returning to the bedrooms for further spoil. Mrs Clarke gave the alarm to a canvasser who happened to call, and the man got -out the back way and ran up Symonds street towards Grafton bridge.. The canvasser pursued him, but lost trace of him down'a gully. One of Mrs Clarke's v daughters returning home, called in medical assistance for her mother, who
was much shaken and bruised.' The police were immediately informed and have been making every effort since to discover the thief. A man answering to his description had been noticed in the vicinity of the house one or two evenings before.
