MASSACRE THEORY SCOUTED.

NATIVES BIGGEST LIARS ON

EARTH,

(Received February 23, 8.24 a.m.)

SYDNEY, Feb. 22

Mr Donald Mackay, a New Guinea explorer, and discoverer of the coal seams which Mr Smith's expedition intended to examine, strongly opposes me idea of massacre. Messrs Pratt and Bell are experienced explorers, f.iioroughly acquainted with native habits, and would give them no chance of attack. He places no reliance on the natives' reports of a massacre. The natives are the greatest liars on the face of the earth, and no New Guinea white resident takes any notice of them. What has happened is that the expedition has encountered unfavorable conditions generally, and it will turn up oafely.
