WON BY AUSTRALIA.
WITH CONSUMMATE EASE.

MELBOURNE, Feb. 22.
Any hope which the South African cricketers might have had of winning the cricket test match rubber, was obliterated yesterday by the Australian representatives, who obtained their third test victory out of four matches played, with enough runs over to give the South Africans two more innings. —on their average totals in this match —and still leave a balance in the home team's favor of 166 runs. The South ' Africans were short of Llewellyn's batting services in the second innings, but that could not "count as much palliation of the hollow victory. After the adjournment Sinclair joined Faulkner, who had scored 50 in 85 minutes. When 52 he was missed bjr Whitty. Off one over of Hordern's Sinclair and Faulkner scored 13. When his score had reached 9 Sin-. clair was missed by Carter off Whitty. Sinclair then drove Whitty for the first six of the match, but soon after Faulkner lifted Hordern for 6. Sinclair was dissatisfied with the leg-before wicket decision which brought his innings to a close. Five for 151. Schwarz had a short life. Six for 158. Whitty missed Faulkner at mid-oft! when he was 79, Hordern's analysis suffering in consequence. Off the next ball Sherwell was caught at point. Seven for 161. Four runs later Faulkner played Whitty on. He played bright cricket for his 80 runs, his innings lasting 131 minutes. He hit nine fours and one six. Eight for 165. Pegler was caught at cover-point by Gehrs. Nine for 171. Llewellyn being absent owing to an injury the innings closed and »the match was won by Australia with a margin of 530 runs.
