Births in the State numbered 45,53? iast year, which is a record. The rate was 27.32 per 1000. Deaths totalled 16,191, the rate being 10.44 per 1000, which constitutes the highest for three years. The phthisis rate was the lowest on record, and cancer was slightly above the average. Marriages aggregated 14,294, also a record.

The estimated population of the State is 1,690,316, the year's increase being 44,872.
