There was perfect weather and a large attendance for the opening day of the Dunedin J.C. Meeting, and the going was excellent. The Governor and Lady Islington arrived before the first race. Autumn Hurdles. —Pinul 1, Jack Ashore 2, Coy 3. Scr.: White Cockade and Embrasure. Pinul took charge at the home turn, and won by three lengths. Time, 3.23 1-5. Gladbrook Handicap. — Guaka 1, Earon Northburn 2, Archray 3. Scr.: Cocoon and Loudia. Won by a length. Time, 1.31 3-5. Champagne Stakes. — Counterfeit 1, Byron 2, Daringdale 3. Pert was the only other starter. Won by four lengths. Time, 1.17 1-5. Dunedin Cup. — Los Angeles 1, Fasnakyle 2, Rose Noble 3. Scr.: Martini and Chief Lochiel. A close race. Won by a length and a half. Prim was fourth. Time, 2.36 3-5. Trial Plate.—Thistledown 1, Lavidia 2, Optimuform 3. Scr.: Mahari and Miss Murphy. Won easily. Time, 1.17 Stewards' Welter.—All Guns 1, Armstrong 2, Cuirosettia 3. Scr.: Lupulite. Won by a short head. Time, 1.30 3-5.
Berwick Handicap. — Land Rose 1, Seapen 2, Sedate 3. Six others started. Won by two lengths. Time, 1.2 -1-5.
Publicans' Handicap.—Obsono 1. Lupulite 2, My Lawyer 3. Seven others started. Won by three-quar-ters of a length. Time, 1.16 2-5.
