SYD KEMP CHALLENGES PEARCE

Syd Kemp, son of the ex-champion (Peter Kemp), has lodged a deposit to row Psarce for the championship of Australia and £100 a-side, on the Pairarnatta River, at the end of April or beginning of May. The challenge came as a surprise, though Kemp has "•von a number of races lately. The Arnst-Pearce negotiations for the world's championship race are blocked through Pearce's inability to obtain the full amount of the stake. Avnst declines anything less than £500 a-side.
