BAPTIST CONFERENCE.
The second Australasian Baptist Congress is to be held in Melbourne from March 20th to April sth. One of the most important items on the business paper is the consideration of a motion from New Zealand with regard to mission work in India. All the States of the Commonwealth, as well as the Dominion of New Zealand have missionaries at work in Eastern Bengal, but there is no recognised official union between them. The motion is, in part, as follows:—"That a commission be set up by this assembly to consider the question as to whether it would be reasonable for the Missionary Society to adopt as its watchword, 'The Evangelisation of Brahmanbaria and Chandpur in this generation.' That it consider also whether it would' be possible for us to come into closer relationship with the Australian so cieties working in the adjoining districts. That our delegates appointed to the Australasian Congress be authorised to bring this resolution before the congress, to invite the societies represented to move in a similar direction, with a view of suggesting a uniform watchword and forward policy for the whole of the Australasian colonies, and to report to the next congress."
