DEADLOCK AT WELLINGTON
WELLINGTON, Feb. 18
A new development in connection w:th the Patea shipping trouble occurred yesterday. When the a.s. Mai:a arrived from Patea, the steam ar berthed ut Glasgow wharf. Casual laborers employed by ths Harbor Loard, on being sent to truck cargo, declined engagement. Conse<iuewlv the hatches have not hi 1 .-; i removed.

It is rumored on the wharves that if the Mana is placed ilongside either of those Home boats for clischarg ing cargo, waterside workers employed on those liners will £O on shore. Representatives of the shipping companies whose vessels trade to Patea, and the Seamen's Union are very reticent. Mr Fletcher (chairman of .the Harbor Board) had a conference with the executive of the Waterside Workers' Federation and also met the shipping companies, with the object of bring-
ing about a compromise,
