BAND CONTESTS.

FURTHER RESULTS

PALMERSTON N., Feb. 18

The band contests were concluded yesterday afternoon,, with the foliowirg results:—

Euphonium Solo.—Hickman (Wangranui), 70 points; Cummins (Wellington Garrison), 67; Goodall (Wellington Trams), 64; Weir (Petone), 62; Kay (Petone), 62; Williams (Wanganui), 60; McCaskill (Westport), 56; Wheatley (Westport), Cudley (Waitara', Fenton (Waihi), Harris (Gisborne), all 56.

Trombone Trios.—Waihi 76, Tararaki 70, Wanganui 50.

Quartets. —Westport 106, Ashburton 100, Waitara 94, Wanganui 90, Onehunga 70, Waihi 70, Petone 68, Gisborne 68, Ashburton 65, Wellington Garrison 65, Wellington Trams 60.

Double-bass: "Nazareth." The judge was delighted with the playing of this section, and said it was wonderful work on such ponderous instruments. The tone was fine and organ-like. The phrasing was the weakest point. Gumrc.er secured 95 points, and Pittam 90 points, Bass Trombone: "The Wolf." The ,H:dge had no hesitation in awarding Jirst prize to Handley, of Taranaki, (90 points), and congratulated him on his interpretation and performance. Boyd (Wanganui) was a poor second, with 50 points.
