MAORI GRIEVANCES.
A DEPUTATION FOR ENGLAND
AUCKLAND, Sept. 20
In connection with the Maori movement to send a mission to England in order to ventilate grievances of the native race, Raniera Wharerau, of Hokianga, has been elected to represent the great Ngapuhi tribe. The Northern natives have little concern with Waikato affairs, but recently Te Rawhiti, who acted as secretary to the late Tawhiti, toured the North, and succeeded in arousing a certain amount of sympathy, which crystalLsed monetarily to close on £1000. The Ngapuhi people, in identifying themselves with the mission, do so chiefly in order to uphold their mana, and to convey to the King an earnest of their unswerving loyalty, but if occasion offers, their representative will voice a protest'against the disabilities under which they suffer in regard to landed rights. It is anticipated that the mission, which will consist of four delegates, under the leadership of kawa, will leave for England in the course of another month.
