The Weather, &c— The spring whether experienced here has been admirably suited to the crops: This year's garden cultivar tion suppaspes anything this settlement has seen. Pioneer work is ditimes slow and sure. Shearing has commenced in and around out settlement. Messrs Staples and W. Macke'n lately sheared eight hundred sheep for Mr OreeHwa'y, of MimiiVhangata. \$M& means cargo for the m'oathly steamer. • . ; The Social Club held its usual meeting on Monday, November 20th. The attendance was not so good as usual. Saturday being found the. most convenient evening. Mr E. H. Hooper was voted to the chair. A recitation. " The Spanish Champion," was well rendered by Miss Jane Grassick; songs were given by Messrs Hooper, (" Tom Bowling,") and Halversou. The subject of dbbate for the evening was "Arbitration v War." Mr D. C. Brown, our local teacher, spoke at length on behalf of Arbitration, which he advocated as being a proceeding at once reasonable, just, economical and merciful. War resembles the barbarous trial by combat while Arbitration illustrates trial by Jury. .. A Ptrafcic TTat-.t.. — The Question of erecting a Public Hall in Whananaki was then discussed, anda committee consisting of Messrs Johnson, Stirling, Hooper and F. Lee was appointed to consider ways ai.d means. This brought the meeting to a close.
