"GREEN RAY" MEN RELEASED.
Than lis to Brother Allen and the fact that they had completed their sentence, the two "Green Ray" rebels were released from service yesterday. The Socialist Plall was comfortably filled in the evening to welcome Messrs. O'Ryan and Cummings back to civilisation. We had never met the two gentlemen before, but we shall look forward to meeting them again. We are not quite sure what they were put into jail for; all we know is that thousands of honest men have been jailed during the past four years under what were termed "war precaution acts," or something like that, and we know that the real cause was that those men were against war profiteering. I expect if I had been making millions out of the war,'! too should have disliked anyone who wanted to stop the war. It seems as if human nature has got a bit of a kink on the get-rich-quick question, aud wo all seem to be bitten with the same microbe. Well, the Green, White, and Yellow Flag' was floating alongside the Red Flag yes-terday,-and when Brother Cummings explained what it stood for I almost chucked up my international ideas and became a "Sinn Feiuer"-—almost. The usual welcomes were handed out by the usual band of rebels. Nearly all of those who spoke had been guests of His Royll Nibs at one time or another. Then the two Dunedinites responded and thanked those who had spoken kind words. Brother O'Ryan belongs to the Vag. order. He told-us some of the inner workings of the silly institution called prison. He said he never used to care much for pigs before he went to "quod," but now he had a great deal of respect for Dennis. He said if ever he went to jail again lie hoped he would go as a pig. He said the pig was better eared for and looked after. If there was any milk to spare from the cow, the pig got it. When men were lying around almost dead with Brother Massey s plague, with their tongues hanging out, they couldn't, get a !asto of milk because the pig wanted it. The pig and her pups were -al- : totoi to wash themselves in the i bur if ;i prisoner did that!' 10 would got dummy. He told us of i i he reiormable influence of the jail. Fie related one instance ol" where a [ ;ang Avas sent out to finish some ' sand and told to hurry up, because it ' jelonged to the County Council. 3rethrcn, this is a wicked world, < nit all the wicked people are not OAked .urj.—THß.X^Gii— — Jj
