According to Lloyd's Register for 1911-12. the nurabor of steam vessels owned by tho Unitod Kingdom is 8487, with a n«* tonnage of 10,519,076. Over-
soa States owta ll]4eteam vessols, having a net toiinago of 788,580. The number of, sailing vessels is 847, with a toimage of 579,982, and tho oversea States own 694, with a tonnage of 196,193. This gives a totial of 11,442 British; ■ and greater British vessels witli'a' tonnage of 12,803,831. During the thre-e months comprised in tho re-turns, a. total of 58 British and oversea vessejs of all elneses were lost, with a tonnage of 49,298. During the quartor two British steamers and two oversea sailing ships were abandoned at soa; two British steamers wero burned; two British steamers and one sailing vessel were reported as having left port and never been heard of again.
