Boys’ Cycle Race in Feilding

There were six starters for the road cycle race of ten miles in Feilding on Saturday afternoon, sponsored by the Feilding Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club. The event excited much interest on the part of the youth of the town and followers of amateur athletics. The course was from Denbigh Square up Kimbolton Road to the reservoir and return. The result was: L. Berrington 1, N. K. Rodgers 2, K. Walker 3 and C. Garnett 4. The time was 30mins. 53secs. Passing the half way mark C. Lee led followed Closely by Rodgers with the remainder of the field bunched and led by J. McNabb. Last on the run home Berrington went through to take the lead which he maintained to win easily from Rodgers with Walker but half a wheel away third. There was a large crowd present to witness a good finish, Mr. T. Kelly presenting the cup to the winner which had been donated by Mr. W. J. Russell. The winner of this contest is to go to Wellington to compete in the New Zealand Junior Cycle championship to be decided on September 22.
