(By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) Received Friday, 8.30 p.m. THE HAGUE, May 10.
“Hitler knew he had lost the war seven months before D Day, ’ * said Anton Mussert, the Dutch Nazi leader who was interviewed in his prison cell. “I last saw Hitler at his headquarters in East Prussia in December, 1943. I asked him to renew his pledge that the Netherlands would have self-govern-ment under the New European Order. “Hitler told me he could no longer guarantee Europe’s future as things were not going as planned.” Mussert said Hitler knew that he had no chance of winning the war, but there was a remaining hope that the Allies would join Germany in the war against Bolshevism.
Mussert, who strutted in a hlack Nazi uniform during the occupation, was wearing a plain grey suit. His collar and tie were removed to prevent an attempt at suicide. He appeared comident that his actions under the occupation would be vindicated at his trial and believes he will be set free and accorded a vote of thanks from the nation.
AsKed whether Seyss Inquart invited him to flee to Germany before the collapse, Mussert replied. “No. No German invited his friends when he was in danger. ’ *
