Serious Position of Railways Coal Stocks
DIVERSION OF DOMESTIC AND INDUSTRIAL SUPPLIES (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 11. With less than one week’s supply of coal in hand the Railway Department is facing a serious position. Stocks have been below normal requirements for some time, but recently the level to which they have fallen has caused great concern. With a view to redeeming the position the - Mines Department to-day instructed coal mining companies to divert the day’s output, including the normal domestic and industrial supply, to the railways. It was not expected that the instruction would be of a continuing nature.
