Friends of Flight Lieutenant Frio Edmunds, R.A.F., will be pleased to hear he lias been liberated after three years as a prisoner of war. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Edmunds, of Awapuni, have received private advice to this effect from Mrs. Edmunds’s parents in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Lieutenant Lawrence Hampton, M.M., of the Second N.Z.E.F., son of Mr. and Mrs. 11. Hampton, of Shamrock Street;, Palmerston North, who is reported killed in action, had an outstanding career in the Forces. Born in Magatainoka, he was educated at the Carterton Convent School and St. Patrick’s Cpliege, Silverstream. A good Rugby footballer, lie was a member of the Silverstream first fifteen for a number of years and captain for two seasons. He came to Palmerston North for a period and while in the city played for the Kia Toa Club. Prior to the outbreak of hostilities he joined the Army as a drill instructor and later went to the Middle East as a warrant
officer. Ho was wounded in April, 1043, and in the following month was awarded the Military Medal. Subsequently he was promoted to commissioned rank.
