Plunket Car Appeal

A meeting of the Motor Car Subcommittee and members of the Society’s Advisory Council resolved to close the current appeal, so far as the Pahiatua district is concerned, on Saturday next, September 9. The president, Mrs. W. H. Purdie said that there was no doubt that the canvass of the district had been a success, and the Plunket Ball, which will probably augment the funds to the extent of some £4O, was equally successful. Indications point to the realisation of approximately £390 when the appeal is closed. Members felt that there may still be residents who desire to contribute and the treasurer, Mrs. W. B. Gray, or Mr. R. C. Salmond, manager of the Bank of New Zealand, will be pleased to accept donations, which will be publicly acknowledged. A vote of thanks was accorded members of the Entertainers and all who assisted in the staging of the ball. Letters of thanks are to be sent to Mr. A. G. Hogg, chairman of the Entertainers and to Mrs. G. Jones. Mrs. T. J. Cotter reported on a visit to Woodville where the sub-branch will commence an appeal in the near future. The Eketahuna committee is to meet within the next week and will give consideration to the collection of its share of the required sum. After some discussion, a recommendation was passed that a Motor Car Committee be formed, Messrs S. J. Judd, S. T. Tinney and R. C. Salmond agreeing to act.
