French Crowd Attempt To Lynch Collaborationists

Received Tuesday, 8.20 p.m. LONDON, Sept. 6. The French police yesterday fired over the heads of 6000 people to prevent them attacking six Vichy militiomen awaiting execution at Grenoble. The militiamen were tied to stakes in front of the former Vichy militia barracks at Grenoble where a few weeks ago the Germans had shot 20 French civilians. They had been sentenced to death after a summary trial conducted in accordance with the regulations drawn up by the French Provincial Government. The French police and Maquis formed a cordon to prevent the crowd rushing the stakes. The F.FJ. carried out the execution with sten guns.
