For the past three year* an enthusiastic Palmerston North gardener haa kept a record of the dates on which several of the earliest blooming trees have commenced to dower. Nectarine: 3/9/42, 7/9/43, 8/9/44. Satsuma plum: 30/8/42, 2/9/43, 12/8/44. Blue Diamond plum: 80/8/42, 2/9/43, 29/8/44. Apricot: 5/9/42, 4/9/43, 8/9/44. Hastings Engine Shed Qutted An engine shed in the Hastings railway yards which boused a shunting tractor oaught Are on Sunday afternoon and was completely gutted, hut the Fire Brigade made & smart save of the tractor which was only slightly damaged. The driver, Mr. R. C. Bateman, twice attempted to start the tractor engine but was overcome by smafce and had to be rescued bv his father.
